Mietta's Review
Harveys is a busy restaurant, bistro and delicatessen in the bustling James St precinct. Offering a good selection of local produce, with over 80 cheeses and some interesting Asian grocery items, like soy lime dressing. Very popular for breakfast with the well heeled crowd. New chef, Melissa Schembri, seemlessly took over the kitchen in 2005. Coffee is good. Much loved by its many regulars and visitors from interstate. In 06 mains averaged $22.

Other published opinions

Courier Mail food and wine guide Queensland 2008 Score: 15/20, One Hat "You could be forgiven for thinking that the key to the attraction of Harvey's is its design and location - a part of it inside but more of it out, its own grassy knoll, and an easy view of the multitudes strolling their way through the James Street shops"

Gourmet Traveller 2008 Australian Restaurant Guide "It's been a while since PJ McMiIlan (ex-Armstrongs at Seasalt) had his own place and he's making the most of it - opening for breakfast, lunch and dinner almost daily"

Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2007 "Owner-chef P.J. McMillan has made a stunning return to the culinary world this year"

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 2006 "A major renovation this year has spruced up this James St venue owned by Matt and Kate Harvey. With a new chef Melissa Schembri and sous chef Naomi Moore in the kitchen, and a new menu, things are looking good at Harveys."

Brisbane News Eating Out Guide 2006 "Matt and Kate Harvey offer a casual, friendly dining experience in their popular, eponymous venture, while chef Paul Frazer-Poynting introduces a hint of adventure to his menu."

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 05 "Paul Fraser-Poynting had big shoes to fill taking over as chef here from Timmy Kemp, who headed over to South Bank to open an eponymous eatery. But he came well credentialled and has put his stamp on the menu"

Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2005 "Brisbane's favourite cafe and a quintessential Queensland experience"

Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2004 "Newcomer Paul Frazer Poynting's menu still leans towards Mod Oz and caters for vegetarians, while the deli stocks a huge range of pantry essentials and gourmet treats. A popular spot with the hip Valley crowd"

Brisbane News 4/04 Alison Coats score 8/10 "The incredible popularity of the James Street developments in Fortitude Valley continues unabated and Harveys, which was there almost from the outset, is still pulling in the crowds. ... Long-time chef Timmy Kemp recently left and Paul Frazer-Poynting, head chef at City restaurant Urbane until the end of last year, took over a few weeks ago, meaning the menu has taken a different turn. The new list treads a path through the popular dishes of the moment, such as gnocchi, risotto and tempura fish and chips, as well as offering mains courses based around quality ingredients, such as Bangalow pork."

Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2004,'Breakfast here is especially popular...menu is designed to suit the laidback style, but chef Timmy Kemp ensures it is always colourful and abundantly fresh.Kemp combines her Thai origins with classical training to create dishes that are original and intensly flavoured.'
