Mietta's Review
The first of New Farm's trendy cafes, Gertie's, has changed ownership yet again but it still feels good, though the accent may have tilted a bit towards drinks (particularly late). This is a Brisbane institution and worth a visit - it's very well set up with warm, attractive spaces and windows that open fully to the street. In 06 dishes averaged $12.

Other published opinions

Courier Mail food and wine guide Queensland 2008 "Gertie's was one of Brisbane's original cocktail/wine bars and is still buzzing with the in-crowd due to its outstanding location, sophisticated decor and high quality food and tapas"

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 2006 "John and Amanda Scott took up ownership of Gertie's in 2004 and brought the venue back to its original charm. The overall impression is of a stylish Parisian bar circa 1930"

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 05 "The ultimate people-watchers' perch, this ambient corner bar has recently undergone a makeover under the new ownership of John and Amanda Scott, who run the neighbouring Continental cafe."

Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2004 "Spend your evening grazing on interesting tapas and sipping cocktails in this funky, art deco-inspired night spot, which has recently had a facelift under new owners John and Amanda Scott"

Brisbane News 06/04 Audra Dunsford score 7/10 "Gertie's is undergoing an extreme makeover. And proving beauty is not skin-deep, new owners John and Amanda Scott are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to restore the corner spot to its former glory of a few years ago. The energetic Scotts (who run the Continental Cafe, New Farm, and Conti Cafe, Wilston) have been working with Canadian-born manager Mark Bishop to pull the new look together. The interior is being overhauled, and so is the menu."
