Mietta's Review
Chez Bob serves its loyal local clientele very well and does not try to surprise with foreign (non-French) flavours. The layout of the tables and cafe chairs, the setting, the menu, the prices, the quantity of baguette served and the aprons and accents of the waiters are precise. It is very popular and often booked out with an older local crowd who really like to BYO and enjoy themselves without inhibition of formality or high prices. There is a lot of light coming in from the street at the front and from the glass windows to the courtyard which is popular in warm weather.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 12.5/20 "When you feel like a good dose of Gallic culture without the star-studded hubbub of that famous place on Toorak Road, there's a good alternative in the quiet understatement of Chez Bob"

Herald Sun Dining Out, Stephen Downes, 13-11-07 Score: 12/20 "You can't be too worried about alternatives if you choose to eat at Chez Bob. Like several similar bistros, it relies on the unquestioning francophilia of Melbourne diners. The wine list is interesting, limited, comprehensive of grape varieties and fairly pricey. Many wines are sold by the glass."

The Sunday Age, 12.09.99, John Schauble review "It's not hard to see why this place is popular with the locals; it meets most of the criteria of a good local bistro in the best of Gallic traditions. We visited on a Tuesday night and it was well-patronised. There is a friendly, welcome, sufficient staff to cover the tables, a modest but accpetable wine list (Australian and French selections) and food that is certainly better than average. Score: two stars"
