Mietta's Review
An old brick building with green window frames and doors. There is a small front room and a larger back room, the left hand side of which is all open kitchen. There is an open fire in winter. The food is sound, using good produce, and smart but not over designed. The wine list is shortish but good, with a decent representation of less expensive local wines. Prices are reasonable. Service, even when busy, is very good and the timing of the food spot on. Highly recommended.

Other published opinions

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "From the friendly greeting and soothing alt-country soundtrack to the comforting menu, the green shed's motif is 'cosy'. Stripped brick walls sport oil painting triptychs, and twinkling candlelight brightens the dark corners, reflecting off the solid cutlery and modest stemware. James Loveridge's crowd-pleasing European bistro fare is as good as ever."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 13/20 "INK splotches stain the original pale green paint on the brick walls of this reborn 1860s printery, now decorated with moody oil paintings by co-owner Therese Shanley. A snug front room opens into a spacious barn of a dining room, with lacquered redgum tables set with little hemp napkins. Owner-chef James Loveridge serves up bistro grub"

Gourmet Traveller 2005 Restaurant Guide "Chef-lames Loveridge left his heart in rural France, falling in love with the simple bistro food of the wine regions. It shows at this cute little Beechworth bistro - at the centre of a burgeoning wine district. Wine plays a big part in its appeal."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Chef James Loveridge set out to make this place a real bistro, very much in the rural French/Mediterranean style utilising regional produce when possible...The wine list is particularly good here'
