Mietta's Review
In spite of changing hands in late 04, Ray's is still packing them in or, if the weather's good, out on little boxes. The food is mostly breakfast or bread with numerous toppings. Good cooffee, and equally good casual atmosphere. Less attitude than Brunswick St.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2009 "Ray is something of a pioneer. Opening way back in 2000, this is the place that helped spark the Brunswick cafe revolution"

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Crowds of indie cool kids still descend on Ray's communal table every weekend (or whenever their lecture schedule allows) for excellent coffee and simple grub that makes great use of ingredients from the nearby Middle Eastern foodstores"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "With a Middle Eastern-inflected menu that features baked eggs, Bircher muesli, spicy chai and dangerously good coffee, Ray is quintessential urban bohemian Brunswick - a bit hippy but oh-so-cool."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 it can take time to get a table at Ray. But Ray rewards the patient, and loyal foodies regularly crowd around communal tables to savour the excellent Mid-East-tinged food.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "SITUATED in a side street off Sydney Road, Ray is equal parts cafe and sign of the times. It is the point where old and new Brunswick intersect."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "O LITTLE Ray of sunshine, you're the reason Brunswick doesn't go to Brunswick Street any more. The plaster finishes are distressed but the waiters are always calm and kind, even when bohemians jostle for obscure magazines scattered on the communal table."

Herald Sun, citystyle, 1/6/04,Susan Bragg,Score 16/20,'The menu isn't extensive. But the choices, mainly breakfast food and imaginative lunchtime pides, are intriguing, many using produce from the surrounding Middle Eastern suppliers...Positive name, positive experience.'

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'What a groovy spot.We come mainly for the coffee but the menu represents the varied cuisines of the locals, with a good selection of Middle Eastern flavouring and treats.'
