Herald Sun Extra Food, Marilyn Blake, 11-11-08 Score: ** "This converted factory space has innovative food such as the sour cherry toast with mascarpone, or the Slim Jim poached eggs with ricotta, fig chutney and avocado"

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Nope, it's not a mirage. Set back from the i street in semi-industria, El Mirage is way il cool with its owner-built fitout of warm timbers, ex-school chairs and clean lines"

The Age Matt Preston, 22-1-2007 "The first impression is of neatness from the ranks of school chairs flanking wood tables topped with reclaimed Tasmanian messmate and a long padded banquette. But there's some interest too from the gentle curve of the wood-panel roof, a long expanse of geometric green and cream wallpaper above the banquette and a mosaic of wood blocks around the servery hatch into the kitchen. The only thing lacking is a talking point like the dramatic wall in the Crostons' old place, which was covered in huge numbers, old country petrol station fuel signs to be precise - and when there were still two digits! As the cafe is set well back from the road, there's space for a couple of stark terraces clustered with very chic little grey bent-ply stools and metal tables."

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Among the mechanics and wholesalers an oasis has appeared in east Brunswick: El Mirage's owners have refreshed this former factory with a rough-hewn wooden interior and spacious front courtyard that's popular with the pram set."
