Mietta's Review
An eclectic mix of decor and food sets Wildflower apart from other eateries on Maling Road, Canterbury. The staff, smartly dressed, provide friendly and efficient service. Very busy on Saturday nights.

Other published opinions

The Age Dani Valent, 8-7-2008 "It's a local mainstay that doesn't make cross-towners feel like they've wasted their time. The food is contemporary and appealing but unthreatening ... The narrow two-storey building is in the bricked square off cutie-pie Maling Road. It's been a restaurant for well over a decade; Tony Phelan and Natalie Canavan took over in 2001. He cooks, she runs the floor."

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "There's bijou appeal in spades at this Canterbury stalwart that survived the region's big dry to finally get a liquor licence but, despite now offering a decent wine list, continues to accept bottle-toting diners"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "Tucked away in a shady square off Maling Road, Wildflower continues to bloom. Having won the hard-fought battle for a liquor licence in this staunchly dry zone in 2004, owners Natalie Canavan and Tony Phelan have got the ball rolling with a modest list of wines, beers, spirits and stickies at reasonable prices."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 14/20 "THIS appealing restaurant, housed in a century-old terrace, spills on to a leafy square in the heart of Maling Road. If it were anywhere else it would be flanked by bustling pavement cafes and bars. But being located in an area that was until recently a 'dry' zone, it stands alone."

AGFG 2004, score 14/20

THE Age, Epicure, Restaurants, John Lethlean,9/7/02, Score 14/20. "Put Wildflower back on your list as one of Melbourne's better BYO's"

The Age, SundayLife, eatstreets, 3/10/1999, Mary O'Brien - hip crowd, elegant, comfortable restaurant. Fun, innovative, good value, a quality BYO.
