Mietta's Review
Pizza by the slice takes on Lygon St, Melbourne's home of pizza at this busy, fun little cafe opened by Tony Nicolini late of Teplestowe's Pizza Espresso. Many of his old favourites are found here soo too is excellent coffee.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "It's all business in this pint-sized shopfront: concrete floors, modular furniture, minimal decoration and warm but no-nonsense service"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "A funky little bolthole is showing staid old Lygon Street what pizza is all about. New-wave pizza pioneer Antonio Nicolini's sleek Carlton digs - polished concrete, white modular furniture and Italian radio soundtrack - harnesses the zeitgeist with pizza by the slice and piadinas."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Tony Nicolini has hit new heights at his slick pizzeria. The coffee's excellent, but the proof of this place is in the pizza

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "AT this young slip of a thing, gregarious waiters meet the needs of a hungry crowd while keeping up the banter with Espresso regulars."

The Age Epicure Matt Preston December 21, 2004 "Tony Nicolini, one of the new-wave pizza pioneers, has also turned his back on the roaring oven in favour of the tray. Nicolini was the pizzaiolo at Templestowe's Pizza Espresso ... Nine months ago, he bailed to set up a groovy little cafe in Lygon Street - Carlton Espresso. Here, you'll find favourites ... by the slice ... They all come on a mattress of dough with a crackling base. They look great laid out on fluttery paper across a wooden paddle."
