Mietta's Review
It's the fig tree that shades the courtyard that gives Fig's it's name and it's outside tables their shade. So on warm days eschew the rather cutesy interior and take your coffee and cake, breakfast or lunch out back under its spreading branches.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "Freerange eggs and organic muesli add to the wholesome vibe, as do the cutesy teapots lining the walls. But if crockery decor isn't your thing, grab some shade beneath the fig tree in the courtyard"

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "THE eponymous fig tree can't be seen from the street. Only when you enter this shopfront cafe do you find it stretching over the courtyard, providing fruit for desserts, and shade for summer diners tucking into gloriously stodgy offerings."

Herald Sun, sunday magazine, 2003, Sally Fisher,'It's not pretentious...These prices are absurdly low and finesse in the kitchen'

The Age, 1/7/2003, Epicure, Unexplored Territory,Matt Preston, ''a rather nice neighbourhood cafe opened 6 months back by Elizabeth Swan and Lindy Rule...an interesting tapas menu...or more substantial dishes.'
