Mietta's Review
This little shopfront cafe with lots of bright neon lighting produces classic Malaysian dishes from a small well-cooked menu. The food arrives quickly, the service is charming and the ambience, though basic, is friendly. Prices are low.

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Outside, traffic rushes by, but inside this breezy cafe, things are less hectic"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "The sound of sizzling woks emanates from this cute little shopfront spot, which helps to get your appetite going. Dishes appear at rapidfire pace, pulled together from ingredients in the display counter."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Fluoro lights, laminex tables and lino floor: the decor at Straits is more fish n' chip shop than Malaysian restaurant. But all is forgiven once your food starts zipping out of the kitchen

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "LOCAL families have embraced this fluoro-lit shopfront cafe, rocking up for home-style Malaysian dishes served in a flash. In the open kitchen, owner Tony Tan works the woks with precision and poise, creating noodle dishes like Penang char kwai teow"

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "EASILY missed on busy Doncaster Road, Straits Cafe is a friendly family-run takeaway serving pungent Nonya cuisine. The tiny menu presents a handful of Penang dishes"
