Mietta's Review
Over-looking the Murray River, this romantic location offers views of paddle steamers by day and back-lit gums at night. The dining room is on two levels and the staff work hard to make you feel welcome. Wine list is excellent, at reasonable prices. The menu is varied, offering daily specials. The decor leans heavily towards Australiana - corrugated iron and old farming implements. This is the best place in town.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2008 "Perched on the riverbank, Oscar W's capitalises on the beauty of its environment"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 14/20 "The Echuca Wharf by day is a cacophonous tourist precinct. Elegantly escaping the fray is Oscar W's wharfside eyrie on the Murray. It's a superb blend of rustic charm and upmarket restaurant slickness"

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 15/20 One Hat "Oscar W's bucks that trend completely by serving some of country Victoria's best food in a setting that is close to perfection. Angle for a window table, where the waft of eucalyptus from the giant river gums provides a magical counterpoint to the aromas drifting from the plates."

Herald Sun 12/3/05 Bob Hart "Oscar W's Wharfside operates, naturally, in the pleasant if hokey tourist precinct in which folk have been known to don fancy dress and a certain amount of rubbish is sold. Such is life in a town with a past. But there is nothing touristy or resort-like about this restaurant: it is superbly positioned, stylishly conceived and consistently excellent."

Herald Sun CityStyle Best of Melbourne 04 best steak "In the historic wharf precinct, taste a fabulous salt-encrusted steak while overlooking the floodlit Murray."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Sensational food and a stunning location, with the restaurant dangling over the mighty Murray in amoungst the river gums.'
