Mietta's Review
The Algarve might be in Portugal this restaurant is not, nor is the food. It owes more to Elwood (where it lives) than to the wild Atlantic coast of its namesake. Politely fashionable, fairly fishy, food at reasonable prices, a minimal wine list and a pleasant courtyard area round out the picture

Other published opinions

The Age Epicure 8/3/05 Matt Preston "Enter The Algarve and it has the feel of a touristy fish restaurant somewhere on the Mediterranean; a chequerboard floor, simple wood furniture and ragged-finish walls. On the walls there's seafaring flotsam and jetsam, like model ships and oars."

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "IN the hunt for great flavours, the Algarve casts a wide net ... All eaten in a Tuscan-inspired courtyard, with a Greek salad."

The Age,Agenda,13/6/04,Dani Valent,'Limited options on the blackboard menu inspire confidence in the freshness of the catch at this no-frills seafood spot.Three daily fish are served the same way:tossed in a house-made Cajun spice mix and grilled with the option of rice, chips or salad on the side. The portions are generous and the fish is very well cooked. The wine list is a joke but there's a good bottle shop a few doors down.'
