Mietta's Review
It may be a little difficult to find, because it's not literally on Smith Street, well the entrance isn't anyway. You enter via a little doorway on Charles Street, just up from Smith. When it is found, mostly for a coffee in the morning or lunch during the week, its like stepping into Nanna's house by the Sea. Jaffles, laminex, roughly painted walls and a pleasing smell of fresh coffee. The service is homely and warm, and the food is cheap.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Peekaboo! This basement hidey-hole has the daggy-cool thing happening, with patrons snuggling into a semi-underground room furnished with bric-a-brac to fill up on comfort food - perfectly runny baked eggs with asparagus or chorizo, or house-made baked beans on thick toast"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Comfy yet well-dressed, this mini me-sized cafe has it all - or at least as much as can be fitted into the average glove box. It's warm and inviting, just like the smoky pea and ham soup they serve, so thick you can eat it with a fork."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Cute-as-a-button and friendly to boot, this basement cafe is like your favourite auntie's place, with laminex benches, comfy furniture and the smell of cinnamon in the air.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 " a cellar-like space of redbrick floors and exposed beams, top lattes are served along with brekkies of organic porridge with banana. Later in the day, suits meet, greet and take to padded bench seats for lunch"

Age Epicure Cafe Matt Preston January 25, 2005 "a little way up Charles Street is the tiny Cafe Rosamond ... this two-room cafe of painted brick walls and a tall counter glowering over both is welcoming and unpretentious."

The Age,Epicure,Under $10,24/6/2003,Nikki Fisher, 'one bite of Cafe Rosamond's jaffle and you'll be transported back to your childhood.'
