Mietta's Review
Laksa King is hidden inside the Asian mini-mall at 320 Racecourse Road. Eactly like being back in Bangkok or Hong Kong, the cement and fluorescent mall was once home to an excellent Asian grocery and now has a hole-in-the-wall bread shop, probably the cheapest Vietnamese-Chinese takeaway in the west, and, the cheap to mid market Laksa King. Great won ton filled laksa and a few other Malaysian dishes.
Other published opinions
Herald Sun Top 20, 23-05-09 "THIS Singaporean-Malaysian diner is often packed with hungry folk wanting a laksa fix, but don't ignore other highlights"
The Age Cheap Eats 2009 "Sure, you might find a winner in the specials list - maybe a seafood Nonya curry (heavy on the tamarind, with slivers of fish and plentiful prawns) or the nasi lemak (with coconut rice, ikan bills and pickled veg) or even a big serve of beef rendang"
The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "The King' now opens daily but loyal subjects still have to wait most nights. Groups cluster in the low-rent arcade, hungrily awaiting the your table is ready' nod or a shout from the takeaway window"
The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "It may have been schmicked up with dark-wood tables, but you can still get a beggar's banquet at this Flemington fave where the flat fluoro lighting is as much a trademark as the bottomless laksa."
The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Chinese and Malaysian restaurants are opening on Racecourse Road faster than you can say 'fried rice', but Laksa King sets the pace and still finishes first.
The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "THERE'S nothing regal about a grubby little arcade in Flemington, but it's here that the monarch resides. Pay heed not to the fluoro-flooded decor and faux wood tables because the crown jewel is the laksa"
The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "ONE of Melbourne's busiest Malaysian restaurants continues to impress with its flare for hawker food and puny prices."
