Mietta's Review
For just over a year now, the residents of and visitors to, Point Lonsdale have been treated to some exceptional flavours, especially at breakfast. The relatively young Kelp Cafe has been an instant hit, its small but clean space is filled throughout the day with regulars and those lucky enough to just happen upon a good thing. The coffee is good, the service suits the waterside location, that is, it's relaxed and efficient and prices are just. For out-of-towners accommodation is also available.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Yes, it's a chic space near the water with . local artworks on display. And yes, it attracts a certain beach set, with bookings essential for budget-blowing dinners"

Herald Sun Stephen Downes, 15-04-08 Score: 16/20 "Kelp tables good to excellent dishes at regulation brasserie prices. I enjoyed its busy ambience and, fine service. Its wine list is extensive and representative of grape varieties. Many local wines feature and several prices are in the low-$30 range. Nine table whites and 18 reds are served by glass."

Age Good Food Guide 2008 "This once-secret slice of urbanity on the Bellarine was never going to last long under the radar"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Kelp may not be the best situated of Port Lonsdale's restaurants (a toilet block stands between it and sweeping bay views), but it mostly outshines its better-sited rivals in the kitchen."

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "From the cool-headed waitstaff serving Bronte Allen's inventive food, to the dark modern interior and quirky bathroom (complete with fluffy towels and shower), Kelp works."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 score 14/20 "AS befits a restaurant within cooee of Point Lonsdale's lighthouse, this friendly, funky bolthole has become something of a beacon for discerning Bellarine diners. The menu is bold and modern"

2005The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'There's something about these seaside eateries with their outstanding views, sea air and good tucker. We continue to fall in love with spots like this.'
