Mietta's Review
The Portalington Bakehouse lives in a friendly weatherboard shopfront. The display cabinet contains baked goods, pies, cakes, lasagne and quiche. You can buy to take-away, eat in or retire to the back garden to consume your purchases.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 It's not the understated weatherboard exterior that draws people here, but what you'll find inside. Perch in the window with huge views, and tuck in to poached, fried or scrambled eggs that arrive on doorstops of crunchy bread baked in the wood-fired oven.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "STOPPING in at this weatherboard place is like visiting that favourite aunt who has a special knack for baking. The all-wood interior and welcoming smells of rising loaves reflect the back-to-basics credo adopted by this cafe."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "THIS weatherboard shopfront houses a traditional bakehouse, its display cabinet groaning with pies, fat doorstops of lasagne, mini quiches and wedges of frittata."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Could this be one of country Victoria's best food shops?...A refrigerator full of naughty cream cakes beckons, either to take home and enjoy,or to eat here with a cup of their wonderful coffee.A small selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, open fires in winter,take-home food if you don't want to cook and always a big smile and a warm welcome.'
