Mietta's Review
A comfortable, relaxed and reliable spot for a good feed and great service. It's the package here, near the water, far from the city, with a very good and well priced wine list. Serving food throughout the day, the menu takes its inspiration from all corners of the globe. If dinner gets a bit out of control, never fear, there is accommodation available here too.

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 14/20 "Few delights are purer than the effect of the ocean on a cluttered mind, or the sight of a sleepy seaside town closing up shop"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006, score 14/20 "Having shed the seaside-themed interior, Atheistane House (an 1860s clinker brick guesthouse) has finally come of age. Polished blond floorboards offset a cool monochromatic palette; weathered gunmetal tones dominate the deck and courtyard area. Led by chef Simon Thyer, Athelstane's menu sets a steady course."

AGFG 2004, score 13/20, excellent breakfasts, accomodation available

Herald Sun, 19.02.02, Stephen Downes review. "To eat well outside Melbourne is pretty rare. Athelstane offers that kind of service. Its food is bistro-simple, well-priced and, in the main, well-cooked. Its fabulous bread comes from Colac. Its wine list is very good - representative, sensibly priced and offers five table whites and six reds by the glass. Score: 14 out of 20"
