A nondescript Chapel Street shopfront opens up into an impressively deep room filled with heavy imported Chinese wooden furniture, the walls lined with carved wooden friezes and a cute little wooden bar hung with red lanterns. At the back is a rarity for Melbourne Chinese restaurants - an open kitchen. Here Xie Qingyuan, a chef with a Hong Kong hotel pedigree and a rather flamboyant gilded chef's jacket, presides over a menu split between suburban favourites and a la carte yum cha."
