Mietta's Review
Sitting on crate like seats on a footpath just off Chapel Street, looking into the grooviness of The Pound inspires thoughts of Sydney and similar joints dotted along chic Elizabeth Bay. The service is friendly, sometimes, and the menu is short but tasty at reasonable (more like Melbourne) prices. Drinks are well made, and priced in accordance with other Chapel Street bars. Its a great place for drinks and a shared plate of delights after work, or if you live and work around here, you already know how great a spot it is for lunching in the sun.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Who says shopping isn't hard work? When fashion fatigue sets in, Pound Bar fits the niche for a quick revive"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Slumming it in South Yarra is about style, sweetie, not suffering. And the Pound Bar is a case in point: concrete clashes with red carpet, retro lights hang from exposed wires and bottles are craftily suspended in cages over a fluorescent aqua bar."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "DEEP in the heart of 'luvvie' territory, this is a place to see and be seen - or at least to pick up some fashion tips from the bright young things who crowd the kerbside tables. Situated in a cul-de-sac off Chapel Street, the Pound Bar has oodles of charm."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004,Excellent breakfasts,Good Bar,Somewhere we highly recommend,'Once Chapel Street's Prada princesses have finished parading, they perch at pound for a 'berry bomba' breakfast...Lunch is all about soups, salads and pides...Seating is tight and service has attitude sans arrogance. This box shaped bar may be the scene in which to be seen, but it's also the place to wine and dine.'
