Mietta's Review
Even with new owners there's a real sense of community here, fostered by the wholesomeness of its fare, warmth of the staff and the honesty of the prices. This is where you find vestiges of 'old St Kilda', it is casual, cosy, eccentric in its decoration and brings comfort to the locals and their children, who have all loved The Galleone Cafe for many years. From the wooden dolphin doorhandles, to the free-range eggs on toast, it's a blend of colour, bohemia and good, affordable food.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "There's a waiting list on weekends, but you and your latte will be ushered to a trusty formica table before you know it"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "RIP Gaggia. Yes, the Galleon's signature vintage coffee machine has finally been sunk and a stronger, better, faster version stands in its place. The coffee is still as good as it's always been, though."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 The mighty Galleon has changed hands yet again, but its new owners are wise enough not to mess with a winning formula. The retro furniture, Gaggia coffee machine and community notice board have been given a dusting, but left in their old spots.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "CREATED by a group of local artists almost 20 years ago, the Galleon is one of the few remaining habitats for that endangered species, the St Kilda bohemian."

Take 5 Dani Valent 8/8/04 "Plus ca change and all that. New owners have kept the Galleon on the familiar track that its great, grungy drifts of regulars love. So the old Gaggia machine still has pride of place, poached eggs still come on rye and you can get your fix of flaky spanakopita."
