Mietta's Review
Great position with views through Norfolk pines to the beach beyond. The modern fit-out incorporates fold back windows to make the most of the seaside setting and there are communal footpath tables for those who really want to be out there. Good modern food (particularly for the country) at city prices - mains around $30. Excellent service and a good well-priced wine list.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 14/20 "After scorching a path into Torquay three years ago, this savvy little contemporary restaurant is now as much a part of the landscape as the grassy foreshore you see from its huge windows"

Herald Sun Dining Out, Stephen Downes, 14/2/06 Score: 14/20 "Scorched's floor staff know their food and wine, and service in general is excellent. You might not like the sound of the dishes here, but you should be brave and try them; there's a chance you will be pleasantly surprised. The wine list is extensive and fairly expensive, but several bottles are in the $20s and low $30s and six table whites and the same number of reds are available by the glass."

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "Sure, the west coast's waves are alluring, but if you really want an excuse to skip town, Scorched is it. This waterside newcomer offers a plumb dining experience, with uncomplicated, beachy surrounds, savvy service and an accomplished menu"

Gourmet Traveller 2006 restaurant guide "What's hot in Torquay? Scorched, that's what. In a seaside resort better known for surfing than dining, this new foreshore restaurant brilliantly melds designer elegance with laid-back hospitality."

The Age Epicure 14/6/05 John Lethlean score 13/20 "A clean, well-run modern bistro bringing a taste of city life to the Surf Coast. The cooking is solid rather than remarkable."

Age Five country getaways 26/12/04 "Simon Fawcett is back from feeding the Patsys and Edinas at London's Harvey Nicks to join Mattina Harris (ex-Royal Mail, Dunkeld) in opening this beachside spot that's cafe by day but smarter by night. "
