Mietta's Review
Having moved just across the road from their original terraced premises in Gamon Street, the Gravy Train continues to pack them in, feed them satisfying combinations and serve award winning coffee. Busy throughout the day, the breakfast menu is very popular on weekends and on a sunny day during the week a seat at lunch is at a premium. The menu is tasty and fun; small dishes, filled pide, and more substantial grills, the cake selection looks good too. Service is pleasant and prices are reasonable. Recommended.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "If it's sunny - and the Gravy Train has too many passengers - scoring an outdoor spot can be a challenge. The shady tables out front or in the grassy back garden are scoped by young mums, happy kids, and couples poring over real estate magazines."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Whatever your timetable, catch this train. The day starts with workers rushing in for a kick-arse coffee; then come mums and freelancers

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 Dog Friendly Dining "Never mind the spot-on coffee and imaginative menu - west-side pooch owners need to know that they can linger here at outdoor tables and be sure of permanent pails of water for pups."

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "EXPECT competition if you want a spot in the sunny courtyard. Yarravillagers stake out this busy daytime haunt for brekkie dishes like 'eggs in hell', cooked crisp and served with a devilishly hot sauce, or lighter zucchini and sweetcorn hotcakes dolloped with yoghurt."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "BOOK a table or prepare to wait because the entire parish of Yarraville turns out for breakfast and lunch at this gussied-up suburban home. Squeeze past prams in the sun-soaked courtyard and sit down to creamy coffee and scrummy egg-and-bacon sandwiches"

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'Yarraville locals have taken to the Gravy Train Cafe like bees to honey,so much so they had to move across the road to larger premises.Breakfast offerings include French toast, raisin bread or scrambled eggs on Turkish bread with stewed red capsicum and a sprinkle of dukkah. If you're really hungry go for the big breakfast bacon, spinach, sausages, tomato, eggs, mushrooms and a hash brown.'
